‘Holler If You Hear Me’ Tupac Musical Coming to Broadway
If you are a Tupac fan, you are going to love this one. A musical based around the rappers music is set to hit Broadway called 'Holler If You Hear Me'. Playbill says that director Kenny Leon is casting for African-American rappers between 18-35 and one white male actor between 20-25 with strong rap skills & terrific guitar skills. Leon has said he has always wanted to direct a production based off the late rapper's musical songs and has held small workshops with Shakur's mother, Afeni.
Leon contends the idea is to have a play based around his music not necessarily about his life. He feels Tupac was a 'prophet' and and if everyone could hear his lyrics and stories, then they could see what he sees. He plans to hold a big workshop in NYC this summer and will hopefully have it in next year's Broadway's season! A date has not been determined as of yet!
Update: Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother, has give Leon the green-light for production of the musical and she is said to be "estatic".
