200 Million Reasons Why THE HUNGER GAMES Put the BANG in the BOX OFFICE
The Hunger Games easily squashed the competition at the box office bringing in a whooping $155 million dollars in the US and Canadian Box Offices, $214 million world wide. The movie has made its way into history as the third best opening of a weekend's history, behind only the Harry Potty finale and The Dark Night. It also set records for the highest opening for a non-sequel film. Many are predicting that it may rival the Twilight Franchise.
The movie is a drama based on Suzanee Collins young adult novels, a series of three books. Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, a teen girl who must survive in a televised battle-to-the-death which happens annually by society's top rulers. The movie did better than expectations and lines were packed at movie theathers everywhere. Anticipation for the movie had already been at a feverpitch and fans couldn't wait until its release.
Toy companies are already clamaring for a piece of the Hunger Games with licenses being sold to Mattel and Hasbro to produce toys related to the movie.
