David Boone: Homeless to Harvard

With graduation on the horizon, David Boone knows better things are coming his way.

In the fall, the 18-year-old will head to Massachusetts to attend Harvard University. But for Boone, life hasn't always been easy.

The Ohio native had a rough upbringing in Cleveland, but he didn't let his past determine his future.

Boone blogged about his admissions experience for The Huffington Post, in which he recounted parts of his personal life, including encounters with gangs and temporary homelessness.

At age 14, his home was destroyed by gang members who were upset the teen wouldn't join them. Boone and his siblings had to split up and take shelter wherever they could, because their mother couldn't afford a new house. On some nights, the teen had no choice but to sleep on park benches.

"All of these life lessons have shaped me into who I am, transforming my dreams and aspirations and allowing me to free myself from what was becoming an unproductive environment," Boone stated in his blog post.

Friends and mentors occasionally pitched in with food and a warm bed, but no matter what, Boone remained dedicated to his schoolwork.

Jeff McClellan, principal at Cleveland's MC2STEM High School, admired Boone and offered him a place to stay.

"Here's a kid who's doing everything in his power to get where he wants to go, and we had the available resources to provide a little additional support,"McClellan told ABC 5.

Boone was accepted to more than 20 colleges throughout the nation, including a handful of Ivy League universities such as Yale, Princeton and Cornell. But to Boone, Harvard was the best option.

And his mother couldn't be more proud.

"We've been through a lot as a family," Moneeke Davis told the Associated Press. "He's so focused, so driven and so humble."

Boone will attend the prestigious school on a full scholarship, but he has to get through graduation first.

"I promised myself I wouldn't cry. But I realize that that's what everyone does before they cry," he told FOX 8 in a video interview. "I'm pretty sure there's going to be a lot of emotion there."

Oprah & 50 Cent GET Acquainted

 

 

Oprah will be interviewing rapper 50 Cent on OWN Network on her show Oprah's Next Chapter.  The rapper is one of the most controversial rap figures today.  Many years ago, 50 and Oprah had beef because 50 thought that Oprah disliked hip-hop.  He even admitted he got a dog and named it Oprah, but he, now, says he loves Oprah.  She wrote on her Facebook and Twitter pages:

 

"In the car having just left Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent. Gotta say, he was quite surprising. We talked for 2 hrs. You'll see Part 1 this Sunday. Here are 5 things I learned from Fiddy":

1. He meditates regularly.

2. Received his mantra from Deepak Chopra, whose book he's currently reading.

3. He was not allowed to use curse words in his grandmother's house and still follows that rule.

4. A recent conversation with philanthropist Ray Chambers was life changing for him.

And my favorite….

5. He believes either pray or worry…no need for both.

Tyra Banks is reportedly dating a 24-year-old model from Britain by the name of Robert Evans.  Evans will also be starring as an up-and-coming judge of America's Next Top Model.  A source told Radaronline that the pair has been dating for the past month.   38-year-old Tyra and the model were recently seen canoodling and flirting.  An onlooker said their chemistry was "palpable".

Breaking News: Lindsay Lohan Was In a Serious Accident

 

 

Lindsay Lohan was in a serious accident earlier today.  TMZ reports the actress was driving in her Porsche on Pacific Coast Highway and slammed into the back of a 18-wheeler.  The car was totaled and the passenger window was shattered.  She was not taken to the the hospital by ambulance, but is at the Emergency Room.  She appeared to be fine, but test are being ran. No word on her condition.  Developing…..

 

 

 

Update: 

1:28 PM PT –  Eyewitnesses tell us both Lindsay and her assistant (the passenger) were bleeding and bruised, and the assistant is in an ambulance en route to the hospital.
 

1:20 PM PT – Lindsay was driving the car, and we're told she's saying that the accident wasn't her fault, claiming the 18 wheeler cut her off.

 

Lindsay has been released from the hospital and already back to work on Lifetime's biopic "Liz & Dick." 

 

Update: TMZ reports:

The guy driving the giant truck that got rear ended by Lindsay Lohan Friday tells TMZ … LiLo was trying to flee the scene and when he tried to stop her … her people tried to buy his silence. 



Lindsay was driving on the PCH yesterday when she collided with a semi-truck driven by James (we're leaving out his last name). Lohan was trailed by a Cadillac Escalade (which James refers to as a limousine) … driven by someone connected with her Lifetime movie.



James tells TMZ after the accident, he called 911 as Lindsay and her male assistant got out of the Porsche and into the Escalade. James says the assistant picked up a pink bag, "filled it up with something" and then put clothes on top of it.



James claims the driver of the Escalade was trying to keep him away from the SUV.  James says he wanted to exchange info with Lindsay (whom he did not recognize) but it was apparent to him she was about to flee the scene.



James says the Escalade driver offered him money, saying they could "go to the bank" and withdraw some cash. 



James says  the Escalade driver and Lindsay's assistant put on a full court press: "Him and the guy took me across the street and told me this was some kind of famous person and they didn't want to be in the media. But I'd already called 911 because they were trying to get away from the scene. But they packed a bag and then the limousine driver told me, 'Don't mention the bag to the cops.'"

Lindsay is claiming:

According to our sources, Lindsay is sticking with the "truck cut me off!!!" story, but with a twist … she claims she slammed on the brakes … but nothing.  And get this … somehow Lindsay says she was told the brakes on the rental were replaced two days before the crash.

Brooke Burke has joined the ranks of other celebrities and has ventured into launching her own lingerie line.  She modeled for the line as well!  The 40-year-old, Dancing With the Stars co-host shows off her curvaceous body as she posed for promotional photos for her line called intiMINT. The collection will be a line of apparel. sleepwear, and loungewear.  The pieces will range from $20 to $80 dollars.  Brooke said of the line "it is beautiful, personal, and reasonably priced."

Things are going well for actress Drew Barrymore, she is pregnant and just married Will Kopelman.  Both cover this week's issue of people and Kopelman holds his new wife's pregnant tummy.  Drew told the magazine she wanted something "tasteful and timeless."  Her wedding gown was designed by Chanel, which was adorned with embroidered tulle flowers and feathers.  The wedding was held at Drew's Mediterranean mansion in Monticito, California.

Lindsey Lohan has been well on her way to getting her acting career back on track.  The filming of Liz & Dick has been underway for the last few days and Lifetime has been releasing "official photos" for the biopic.  They released Lohan's re-creation of a famous photograph of Taylor from the 1950's.  The biopic will detail the tumultuous relationship between Taylor and Richard Burton.  The costume designer, Salvador Perez, told People:

 

"There was an audible gasp,"  'You’d swear it was Elizabeth." adding, "'She just walked into the clothes and became Elizabeth Taylor,"

Mega Church Pastor Creflo Dollar Has Been Arrested For Battery 

 

 

Mega Pastor Creflo Dollar, known for prosperity preaching, has been arrested for battery against his daughter.  He is accused of punching and choking his 15-year-old daughter.  His daughter is said to have wanted to go to a party, which he said no, and they got into an altercation, upon which his daughter called the police.  

 

Police say the daughter called the police after her father tackled her to the floor, punched her, and hit her with a shoe.  Officers says they saw a scratch on the girl's neck and throat which supported her claims, calling her injuries "superficial"  The pastor says his daughter was being "very disrespectful" and only did what he did after she hit him first.  He faces charges of simple battery and cruelty to children.
