Blue Cross Blue Shield Alabama Denies Needed Medicine To Asthmatic Child
Blue Cross Blue Shield Alabama There Is Nothing We Can Do Without PA

Stories of insurance companies denying services and medication are increasing and scary. Today we received a call from a mom in Birmingham, AL describing one of the many stories of being denied service/medicine.
The mom of an 11 year old asthmatic child in Birmingham, AL, says she attempted to refill a prescription for an inhaler that her child needs to control her asthma and was denied. The mother quickly called Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and was told that the inhaler in question was not a "preferred drug". The child had been using the inhaler for years but as of 2013, it is not a "preferred drug" and the only way it can be filled is if the doctor sends a PA. The mother then tells the rep that a PA can not be obtained so late in the evening, and asked if anything can be done temporarily. The answer from Blue Cross was no! So, in the meantime the child in question is having an asthma attack, does not have any meds, and will not have access to them until the doctor fills out a PA and the PA is approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
