Color Rich Past

A young 18-year-old by the name of Mads Madsen began adding color to some of the most famous black-and-white photographs from the past.  When he first started using Photoshop to give color to the photos, he began with iconic Civil War photos but moved on to more recognizable figures like genius Albert Einstein, abolitionist, Frederick Douglas, actress, Elizabeth Taylor

The photos above shows just how skilled he is with adding the color to the photos.  Adding color gives a new life and mood to the pictures, that the otherwise black-and-white didn't.  He says it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to do each photo and uses Photoshop for the skin tone and likes to keep the vintage look and feel to the photos.  What do you think?

Everyone remembers “The Color Purple.”   The movie has become a heart wrenching epic tale admired by millions.  Actress/singer Maria Howell starred in "The Color Purple." She portrayed the choir singer that belted out the song “GOD Is Trying to Tell You Something.”  Since then, Ms. Howell has enjoyed a great acting and singing career.  Ms. Howell has become a good friend and found time out of her busy schedule to interview with us.

1. How did you get into the entertainment business?

I got into the entertainment business by way of the movie, “The Color Purple”. Then subsequently, the band that performed at the wrap party asked me to join them permanently.

2. What do you consider your big break?

The Color Purple

3. What was it like working on the Color Purple? What was your role?

In a word…”wonderful”.  It was a turning point in my life and career.  I played the choir soloist singing, “God Is Tryin’ To Tell You Something”.

4. What are other projects you have worked on?

Other projects that I worked on include, “Young Indiana Jones Chronicles”, “Daddy’s Little Girls”, “Army Wives”, “House of Payne”, “Meet The Browns (TV) and “Single Ladies”, to name a few.

5)   What projects are you currently working on?

Just finished filming with Cameron Diaz on the upcoming movie, “What To Expect When You’re Expecting”.  Also appearing in the movie is Matthew Morrison (Glee), Chris Rock and Jennifer Lopez.

6)   Can you tell us some of the people (stars, co-stars, producers etc.) you have work with?

I’ve worked with Whoopie Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Avery, Danny Glover, Quincy Jones, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Tyne Daly, Alicia Sylverstone, Tyler Perry, Regina King, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Mario Van Peebles…musically, Nancy Wilson, George Benson, Ray Charles, Ronnie Laws, Kim Waters, Philip Bailey.

7)   How do you balance your singing and acting careers?

Carefully…and strategically…LOL!  It’s not easy, but since I’ve been doing it for so long, I just do it.  It’s a challenge at times, because there are decisions to make and sacrifices that are not always easy.

8)   What advice would you give talent who want to pursue acting or singing?

The number one advice I would give to aspiring talent pursuing a career in acting or singing is to make sure you would do it for free…that it’s a passion.  Secondly, get an education.  Something to keep the bills paid until you get strongly connected and networked in the biz.  Lastly, believe in your dreams and abilities and go for it!
