Trayvon Martin's killing continues to spark national outrage and George Zimmerman has stayed quiet and in hiding. On February 26, Trayvon was shot dead by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman. Trayvon was an un-armed 17-year-old teen who only had a bag of Skittle and an Arizona Tea. New details are emerging of what Zimmerman told police. The Orlando Sentinel Reports:
"He said he was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community. Zimmerman watch him and called 911 tell the operator he saw a suspicious guy. He said he looked like he was on drugs or something and something wasn't right. The operator asked him if he was following him, he replied yes. The operator told him we don't need you to do that, and he said ok. Now, he maintains he was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words and the Trayvone punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him."
"With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk, leaving him bloody and battered."
"Zimmerman told police he shot the teenager in self-defense."
A new witness by the name of "Jon" came forward to corroborate Zimmerman's account, he stated:
The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: ‘help, help…and I told him to stop and I was calling 911.
“When I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point."
The police had been mum on the evidence they had but a report was leaked of Zimmerman's account and the City Manager Norton Bonaparte issued a press release stating that the leak would be investigated and the person or people involved would be disciplined. Trayvon's parents maintain that they killed him and in death they are smearing him.
Trayvon's girlfriend had came forward days ago and said that she was on the phone with Trayvon and he said someone was following him and he was afraid. She told him to run and he said he wasn't going to run. At some point he did run from Zimmerman and she says he thought he had gotten away but at some point they had met up again.. She says she heard Trayvon say "What are you following me for"? She then says she heard a man, at this point believed to me Zimmerman say, "What are you doing around here"?
After that, she says the phone went dead and he didn't answer when she tried to call back. During this time, a scuffle ensued and Trayvon ended up dead. A witness that discounts Zimmerman's testimony, has come forward and Mary Cutcher says:
"He(Zimmerman) was "straddling the body, basically a foot on both sides of Trayvon's body, and his hands pressed on his back." She also added that Zimmerman "never tried to help Trayvone or never tried to give him CPR"
911 was called by several people during the scuffle. You can hear someone in distress yelling for help. There is conflict over who the person was that was yelling.. Supporters of Zimmerman say its him, but Martin's parents say its him and some witnesses say the voice sounds like a younger person. The prosecutor has said that it may be difficult to prosecute, but many are calling for justice in this case. The case is being investigated now, but if a charge comes at all, it will be in weeks.
