Supermodel Joan Smalls has become the darling and muse of the fashion world and has been busy take it by storm.  During a W fashion shoot, she sat down with a journalist, Lynn Hirschberg, to speak candidly about modeling and what almost kept her from going into it.  She talks about modeling at 13-years of age in her hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico.  She has walked tons of fashion shows and been featured on dozens of magazines, but it wasn't easy for the 23-year-old.  She has been denied some contracts and asked to alter her face, but now she has been name one of the future faces of fashion!

Joan Smalls is paving the way for models of color as she continues to get major covers and climbs the modeling "totem pole".  Joan snags yet another cover on GQ's South African May 2012 edition in a leather jacket with white bikini bottoms.  The 23-year-old is a natural beauty and it is easy to see why she has become a muse in the fashion world.  GQ says of the supermodel.

 

There's nothing small about Joan. The Puerto Rican model is currently ranked as the runway's number three in the long legs, high stakes beauty game – and it's not hard to see why. Our chocolate-dipped fantasy has set campaigns, catwalks and covers ablaze (including the landmark March issue of Vogue Italia, which saw Joan star as the first cover model of colour in the last four years). With killer pins and arresting gaze, we're jonesing for the scintillating Ms Smalls – she's kind of a big deal.

Joan Smalls continues to make strides in the modeling industry, especially when many jobs have been limited for women of color.  Joans seems to have become quite the muse for Vogue and you can see why in a new editorial for the magazine in this up and coming May 2012 issue.  

 

She poses in a variety of outfits that accentuate her long legs and beautiful physique.  They also opted for a natural hair look which has been all the rage for African-Americans in Hollywood since Viola Davis donned it on the red carpet at this years 2012 Oscars!

Supermodel Joan Smalls has done it again.  She has snagged yet another major cover.  She will be on the cover of Vogue Australia May 2012.  She already recently got the coveted Vogue Italia March Edition, which is one of thier best selling editions  

 

The beauty is quickly escating to the top of the ranks in the modeling world walking exclusively in Paris for Givenchy Couture.  She has also done Japanese & British Vogue.
