Ipad Minis Stolen From JFK International Airport New York

3600, IPad minis were taken from JFK Airport  in New York close to midnight on Monday 11/12/12. According to reports, the IPad minis valued at $1,500,000, were taken from a storage area at the airport via forklift. The thieves managed to load two of five pallets of the merchandise that had recently arrived from China before someone noticed what was happening.

Law-enforcement agents and airport officials believe that an employee at JFK may have let the assailants in and out of the location where the Ipad minis were being held. Since it is believed to be an inside job all employees will be given a lie-detector test.

This is not the first time a theft of this nature has taken place at JFK. In 1978, assailants stole almost $900,000 worth of jewelry and a whooping $5,000,000 from the exact same storage area in the facility. That particular robbery was used in the "GoodFellas" movie and is ranked the highest cash theft to every occur in the U.S.A..

Rashad Haughton, Aaliyah’s Brother, Shuts Down Album Biopic Rumors

Rashad Haughton, Aaliyah's Brother, Shuts Down Album Biopic Rumors

Aaliyah and Rashad Haughton

No Aaliyah Biopic

Rumors have been swirling about a posthumous album and biopic for late singer Aaliyah who passed away after a plane crash in 2001.  Rapper Drake, who has made his "love" for the late singer famously known, just released a track, "Enough Said," with Aaliyah's vocals on them and a featured rap spot from the singer/rapper.  Rashad, Aaliyah's brother, however, has taken to Aaliyah's Official Facebook page to address the rumors:  He said about any up-and coming album:

"there is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family.” -Rashad Haughton (regarding upcoming album release rumors)

"Do you want a [new] Aaliyah album?" they wrote on Facebook. "If so, who should executive produce it or be featured on it? The Haughton family would love to hear what her FANS have to say."

About the biopic he said:

Biopic… yes or no?

"No female I've seen can play my sister." -Rashad

Many of Aaliyah's fans didn't take well to Drake's new song and through shade at him for not including Timberland or Missy who were intricate in producing many of Aaliyah's songs for her album "One In a Million".  Apparently Drake contacted Timberland in the aftermath of the criticism and Tim is said to be working on some of the songs for the up-and-coming  album.  Drake doesn't need the families permission to release songs as the song "Enough Said" is co-released with Drake's own record label and Blackgroud Records, which is owned by Aaliyah's uncle, Barry Hankerson.  Hankerson was her manager and likely owned the rights to her unreleased recordings.

Update: There has been much confusion about whether or not an Aaliyah album will happen.  Barry Henderson, Aaliyah's uncle has confirmed there will be an album.  He owns some unreleased tracks that were made by the late singer.  Henderson's son,  Jomo Handkerson confirmed that Missy and Timberland will do work on the album.  He told BillBoard Biz:

"I can tell you that Timbaland will definitely be involved, Missy will definitely be involved. One of the records that we had that was never released was a Missy record that we obviously are going to be refreshing.  He also added, "We really felt like it was time. There's a real new generation that doesn't know her necessarily, and we wanted to continue her musical legacy with this new generation. That's one of the reasons why we wanted to do very contemporary music. We didn't want to make it a nostalgic project; we already did that with the I Care 4 U album. The idea was to release new music for her diehard fans, and also reintroduce her music to a new generation that doesn't really understand how much influence she has in the music that they're listening to today.

He went on to add that there is no set date but it will happen.  The question now is whether or not Aaliyah's immediate family has since changed their mind about approval of the album.  No permission is needed by the family but being that Aaliyah's brother made the statement about not approving earlier this week on A's official Facebook, it does raise speculation.

Update: The album has been confirmed, but no Aaliyah biopic is currently scheduled.

Make it Rain: Mitt Romney is Worth A Whole Lot

Make it Rain: Mitt Romney is Worth A Whole Lot

There has never been a question of Mitt Romney's wealth. He has been a succesful businessman and has never shied away from being proud of his success. Fox News Reports:

A new financial report from GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney shows that his personal fortune remains near $250 million, about the same as last year even after a mass sell-off of stocks from his vast investment portfolio. Romney’s campaign said Friday that his assets ranged between $190 million and $250 million, and a tally by The Associated Press put the figure at the high end of that range.

The new financial report from Romney describes sales over the past year of a large amount of stocks that had been managed through his blind trust. The stocks sold included such familiar corporate entities as Boeing, Volkswagen and Pepsico. The stock sales also included several notable firms whose interests had conflicted with Romney’s stances — among them China-based businesses Hang Lung and Komatsu. Romney has advocated toughened dealings with China’s government over its expanding economic interests.

Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul stressed Friday that the investment decisions for Romney and his wife, Ann, were made under a blind trust administered by a Boston-based lawyer who has long worked with Romney. “Governor and Mrs. Romney’s assets are managed on a blind basis,” Saul said. “They do not control the investment of these assets, which are under the control and overall management of a trustee.” In 2007 during his first presidential run, Romney had assured critics that the trustee, R. Bradford Malt, would see that his investments would not clash with his positions or Republican party stances. But the new 2012 disclosure — along with other Romney financial documents released earlier this year — showed that the Romneys held onto some of those investments well past 2007.

The annual financial disclosure report that Romney turned over Friday to the Federal Election Commission showed a slightly wider range — between $83 million and $255 million — than the narrower asset range released by the Romney campaign. A Romney campaign official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the candidate’s finances said that the campaign’s figures were slightly more accurate because of differences in valuation. The new financial disclosure shows that even after his stock sales, Romney still made millions of dollars over the past year in lucrative bank notes and investment funds, including nearly 40 different funds associated with his former company, Bain Capital.

Denver The Last DinoFart?

Denver The Last DinoFart?

We might want to rename the Brachiosaurus with the monikerGassiosaurus, new research indicates. The gassy emissions from these giant dinosaurs may have been enough to warm the Earth, the researchers say.

Sauropods are large plant-eating dinosaurs typified by such titans as Apatosaurus (once known as Brontosaurus) and Brachiosaurus. When they lived, during the Mesozoic era — from about 250 million years ago until the dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago — the climate was warm and wet. Nothing on Earth today compares with these giants.

The researchers found that the greenhouse gas methane produced by all sauropods across the globe would have been about 520 million tons per year, a number on par with the total amount of methane currently produced by both natural and man-made sources. [Album: World's Biggest Beasts]

Questionable numbers

The researchers, led by David Wilkinson of Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom, did their best to get an accurate estimate of how much gas these big dinosaurs would have created, but their answers are still just estimates based on multiple assumptions, they warn.

The greenhouse gas methane is a natural byproduct of the digestive process of plant eaters, especially in herbivores called ruminants (like cows and camels). The researchers suspect that like ruminants, sauropods would have harbored methane-producing bacteria in their intestines to help digest these fibrous foods.

There is currently no way to tell what kind of bacteria lived in the digestive systems of dinosaurs, what gasses they produced, or what those digestive systems would have looked like, but Wilkinson thinks they would have produced methane like today's animals.

"To process that amount of vegetation they have to be relying on microbes in their digestive system," Wilkinson told LiveScience. "But without a time machine you can't be sure."

Crunching gassy numbers

They used a mathematical model to determine how much gas these plant-eating giants would have eaten. They extended data on methane production by modern mammals, based on size, up into the reaches of the sauropods.

In their calculations the researchers used middle-of-the-road numbers: 10 sauropods, each weighing 20,000 pounds (9,071 kilograms), could have roamed 1 square kilometer of lush Mesozoic habitats. "We've taken a middle-ground value," Wilkinson said. "We tried to be reasonably conservative."

They found that these 10 sauropods would have contributed 7.6 tons (6.9 tonnes) of methane every year. Expanding this number to cover the amount of land estimated to be hospitable habitat for these animals (about half the land on Earth at the time), the researchers end up with more than 550 million tons (500 million tonnes) of methane produced every year.

"I was expecting a number like that produced by cows, so the size of the number really surprised me," Wilkinson said. "It's way, way, way ahead of the estimated methane production by modern livestock." (Cows produce 55 to 110 million tons (50 to 100 million tonnes) of methane each year, he estimated.)

Big eaters

It makes sense, based on the animal's huge size, that they would make much more methane per individual than a cow. But, there are several other reasons why these large dinosaurs could have produced so much more gas than modern herbivores.

The animals would have had plenty of plants to eat, because they could reach high and low, and because of the warm climate, there was plenty of vegetation; in addition, these animals had much vaster areas in which to graze.

The real question is, did these dinosaur's gassy emissions warm the planet?

"The thing about methane is it is an extremely potent greenhouse gas," Wilkinson said. If the levels were anywhere near where their calculations indicate, he said, it very well could have been one of many factors that made that era warmer and wetter than modern times.

The study is detailed in today's (May 7) issue of the journal Current Biology.

The Hunger Games easily squashed the competition at the box office bringing in a whooping $155 million dollars in the US and Canadian Box Offices, $214 million world wide.  The movie has made its way into history as the third best opening of a weekend's history, behind only the Harry Potty finale and The Dark Night.    It also set records for the highest opening for a non-sequel film.  Many are predicting that it may rival the Twilight Franchise.

The movie is a drama based on Suzanee Collins young adult novels, a series of three books.  Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, a teen girl who must survive in a televised battle-to-the-death which happens annually by society's top rulers.  The movie did better than expectations and lines were packed at movie theathers everywhere.  Anticipation for the movie had already been at a feverpitch and fans couldn't wait until its release.
