Being a Top Model requires looks, drive, beauty, determination and sometimes just pure luck. In a youth-obsessed world is rewarded and careers are short-lived, some fortunate models are able to stand the sometimes ridiculous standards of fashion and beauty. This year was no shortage of world-class, high-fashion models to choose from! Some of the models on our hot list are new to the scene who made a huge impact in a short amount , others are veterans that have managed to stay at the TOP OF THEIR GAME. All-in-all, here are our fabulous TOP 10 HOTTEST FEMALE FASHION MODELS OF 2012.
1. Joan Smalls

Joan Smalls is the epitome of grace, beauty, and a designers' dream. The fashion industry has been long criticized for the decline ethnic models in the fashion world, yet Joan is defining and re-defining what it means to be a minority in the fashion industry.
She is considered model.com's #1 model in the world since September 2012. Vogue Magazine practically adores the model as she has appeared on the Italian UK, Japan, and Brazilian editions. She's also appeared on i-D Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, GQ & Dazed & Confused.
The Puerto Rican born beauty is signed to Elite Model Management and has done international campaigns for Givenchy, Liz Claiborne, and has had contracts with companies like Estee Lauder and Gucci.
Joan also currently co-host MTV's "House of Style" alongside fellow friend and supermodel Karlie Kloss! Joan has a terrific career ahead of her and its easy to see why she is #1.
2. Karlie Kloss
Karlie Kloss makes our list at #2. This American beauty has the looks, legs, and personality that makes her an easy win for fashion jobs in the no-holds-bar world of modeling. Karlie, like her fellow friend & counterpart, Joan Smalls, co-host MTV's "House of Style". She was discovered at a charity fashion show and signed with Elite Models in 2007, but in now signed with IMG Models. She has said her classical training background has helped her in her modeling career.
Karlie is modeling.com's #2 model and has done campaigns for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Saab, Gap, Dior, Hermes and more. She has walked for the likes of Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Gucci, Valentino, and more. With infinite beauty and a body to match, we will be seeing much more of our #2 pick!
3. Gisele Bundchen

A Top Model List wouldn't be a list without at least one Brazilian. Gisele Bunchen the quintessential choice at #3. The beautiful Brazilian has a long career in the game and redefined what it means to be a supermodel. Mario Testino revealed earlier this year that Gisele wasn't accepted with open arms by the fashion world when she first came onto the scene, but he was obsessed with making that happen.
To list Gisele's body of work would be another post in itself, but to give you a few samples, she has appeared on the covers of Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Esquire, and Marie Claire. She has done campaigns for Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana & Versace.
Gisele Bundchen has been called by Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer as the last "supermodel." She was discovered on a school trip by an Elite Modeling Agency in Sao Paolo. She was one of the first of a wave of Brazilian models to find super success in the fashion world in the 90's. She was named Forbes highest paid supermodel earning an estimated $45 million dollars between May 2011-May 2012 and has been the highest paid supermodel since 2006.
The former Victoria Secret Model just gave birth to her and famous husband, Tom Brady's second child, and has still managed to sustain a career at the top of the game. It's easy to see why she is our #3 pick!

If you don't know who Kate Upton is, you must have been living under a deserted rock. This girl has been all over the map in 2012, and after being named Sports Illustrated Cover Girl 2012, her career has taken off into the stratosphere. Kate is not your traditionally sized fashion model, and has even been chastised for her weight. Kate knows this, but has shown that determination made dreams come true.
Kate is known for her fun and flirty dancing just as much as she is known for her curvy assets. Kate was signed to lite Model Management in Miami after attending a casting call and eventually moved to New York and signed with IMG. After a video went viral of her doing "The Dougie" she got increasingly popular, and her career has taken shape ever since.
Even though she was considered a swimsuit model, she has been making her way into the high fashion arena by appearing on American and Italian Vogue and will soon be on the cover of Germany Vogue. In 2012, she is ranked model.com's 5th sexiest model and continues to make waves in the high-fashion world.
5. Kate Moss
Kate Moss is one of the most established supermodel in the business. The English model was at the forefront of the modeling world when fashion became obsessed "heroin-chick" look. She also defied modeling standards by being only 5'5 and had to wear extra high heels to appear tall. She was discovered at the at the tender age of 14 at an airport by Storm Models founder. Since then she has graced so many covers its hard to count.
She has had contracts for the likes of Calvin Klein, Burberry, Rimmel, and Virgin Mobil. Kate continues to dominate fashion like her fellow counter-part Gisele Bundchen, when most models careers all but end. At the age of 38, Kate still bags some of the top campaigns and remains one of the greatest supermodels from the 90's era.
6. Adriana Lima
Adriana Lima is the epitome of what high-fashion and sex appeal combines. The beautiful Brazilian bombshell makes our list at #6. Named #4 on Forbes highest paid list of super models, she gained fame as well as Gisele in the 90's. Lima finished 1st in Ford Supermodel of Brazil competition and 2nd the next year in Ford Supermodel of the Word Competition.
It is hard to believe she never really thought about modeling, only entering in a contest because a friend didn't want to enter alone. Adriana has been a fashion heavy-weight for a number of years and is best known as one of the top Victoria Secret's Model. She has done campaigns for Maybelline Cosmetics, SWATCH, Armani, Versace just to name a few.
She has walked the runway for Vera Wang, Valentino, and Georgio Armani. In 2012, she signed a contract with Mavi Jeans and the company experienced such wonderful sales that she has become the global face of the brand. Adriana is no stranger to sex appeal and with a fun personality to match,its easy to see why she dominates high-fashion!
7. Candice Swanepoel
South African, blond beauty Candice Swanepoel has become a bit of a staple for Victoria Secret. It's easy to see why she makes our list of Top Models at #7. With her long legs, sexy curves, and girl-next door charm, Candice has easily become one fashion's elite darlings and her career shows no signs of stopping. Besides being one of Victoria Secret's #1, she has modeled for the likes of Versace, Brian Atwood, Oscar De La Renta and many more.
She was discovered at a Durban flea market at the age of 15 and quickly became a phenomenal success. She has appeared on the covers of Elle, Vogue, i-D, Lush, Ocean Drive. Candice has admitted being bullied in school when she was younger. Guess whose having the last laugh now!!!!!
8. Robyn Lawley
Our #8 pick needs no introduction. She is plus-sized model, Robyn Lawley. She is considered at the moment to be the most sought-after plus-sized model. It is hard to believe she is considered plus-sized as she is only a size 12. She has grace, poise, beauty, and brains which has made her a natural to work with. Her first modeling magazine shoot was Dolly and she did French Elle Magazine in 2011 and French Marie Claire in 2012.
Her biggest achievement this year was becoming the first plus-sized model to ever be used in Ralph Lauren campaign ads. With the world recognizing that more and more women are not a size 0,2,or 4, Robyn is changing the evolution of what a fashion model should be!

Alessandra Ambrosio definitely has what it takes to be one of the top fashion model. She oozes sex appeal from head-to-toe! She has God-given Brazilian beauty and a has stylish grace that keeps men pining after her and designers wanting more of her! Just like her Brazilian counterparts, she too gave birth this year and got back in tip-top shape to walk the VS Runway Show. She also got the honor of wearing the special million dollar VS bra this year.
Alessandra was the first model to ever be chosen to model for Victoria Secret's PINK Line. She has also modeled for the likes of Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, & Armani Exchange. She has appeared on Cosmopolitan, GQ, Elle, and countless others magazines. With her flirty wit, extreme beauty, and never-ending smile, Alessandra commands to be on the Top Model List!
10. Jourdan Dunn

Jourdan Dunn tops out list at #10. She is considered one of the top female African-American models of the moment. The beautiful, tall British model has broken barriers in the world of fashion and manages to be a wonderful mom to her only child. She also has a cooking show on rapper Jay-Z's YouTube Channel.
Jourdan has done campaign's for the likes of Burberry's, Neiman Marcus, H & M, and Sax Fifth Avenue. Her long legs, high, cheek bones, and breath-taking beauty has made her a designer's darling! The British sensation was discovered in Hammersmith Primark in 2006. She is signed with Storm Model Management and was the first African-American Model to walk Prada's runway in over a decade in 2008. With a career going this strong, she is sure to be around for a very long time!
